Centre for Extreme Chemistry
£10m needed – University of Warwick
The University of Warwick is seeking to establish a Centre for Extreme Chemistry. The Centre would be a global hub for research into how molecules and materials behave when exposed to extreme conditions, such as extremely high or low pressures and temperatures, high levels of radiation, and strong magnetic fields. This could lead to discoveries with groundbreaking applications for the fight against climate change, the transition to clean and abundant energy, and space exploration. Finding materials that can withstand the extreme heat required by fusion reactors, for example, could advance our ability to use clean fusion as a widespread source of energy.
A £10m philanthropic investment will create the Centre through the following:
- Recruiting three assistant professorships
- Establishing and developing the next generation of research talent by offering scholarships to 18 new PhD candidates
