Birmingham Cancer Research Institute
£20m needed – University of Birmingham
Cancer impacts over half of the world’s population in their lifetime. Despite 10-year survival rates for cancer doubling over the last 40 years, there are still huge gaps in our knowledge of the disease, as well as enormous disparities in outcomes.
The University of Birmingham’s clinical and research expertise is second in the QS global rankings for citations in cancer research. The planned Birmingham Cancer Research Institute (BCRI) will bring together the brightest minds from academia and industry. The Institute will double the number of clinical trials we are able to hold and will drive a tenfold increase in research income.
A £20m gift has already been received, along with substantial investment from the University, yet a further £20m is needed to fund new researchers and equipment. The centre will also include naming rights. Without philanthropic support, this project won’t go ahead.
